PMPML top management shuffled around again!

PMPML has once again got the short shrift. Its chairman-cum-managing-director (CMD), Mr. Nitin Khade, who had been in the post for only about seven months, has been transferred out to some other post. Mr. Khade was already the third CMD in the less than three year life of PMPML. This comes in the wake of its joint managing director, Mr. Karche, being transferred only a couple of weeks earlier. So, effectively, PMPML was completely without a top management for a couple of weeks.

Awareness building about the role of cycling

Parisar is executing a project that aims to build awareness about the role, relevance and importance of cycling as a means of transport among different classes of citizens. As part of this, it has created a kit to build awareness among school going children and has used this kit to reach out to children in two schools. It has also created a plan for reaching out to corporators (elected councillors) of the PMC and will be executing this plan soon. These activities are being undertaken as part of a project funded by I-CE.

Student article on Vehicle Free Day

Sidhant Pai, a class XII student of Delhi Public School in Pune has published an article in Sakal Young Buzz, a publication for the young brought out by the Pune-based Sakal publishing group. Sidhant wrote this article while he was an intern at CEE in Pune. In his article, Sidhant proposes different activities that children can undertake in their daily lives to contribute to the cause of sustainable transportation, such as reclaiming play areas for themselves from vehicles and promoting a "walking school bus". We are, of course, glad that Parisar and its activities are also referred in Sidhant's article!

Vehicle Free Day 2009

 

Every September 22, people from around the world get together in the streets, intersections and neighbourhoods to remind the world that we don't have to accept an automobile-dominated society and the problems it brings with it and instead reclaim the streets for people. This September, Pune had also planned to celebrate Vehicle Free Day 2009 by organizing various events on and around 22nd September. However, due to some unforeseen reasons some of these events have had to be cancelled or postponed.
