About Parisar & history

Parisar is a civil society organization working on lobbying and advocacy for sustainable development. Since its formation in the early 1980s, Parisar has worked in a diverse set of fields such as preservation of heritage, protection of urban bio-diversity, and sustainable agriculture. Since about the turn of the 21st century, its work focuses mainly on sustainable urban transport, since it recognizes that unsustainable transport policies and systems are the foremost threat to urban environment and quality of life.

Vetal Baba Chowk Cluster: Junction Redesign and Improvement for Pedestrian Safety

As part of the project under Junction Redesign and Improvement for Pedestrian Safety, Parisar supported by AXA Business Services had prepared a proposal for Vitthal Tukaram Bhosale Chowk (JW Marriot Junction) and Vetal Baba Chowk of Senapati Bapat road in Pune city and proposed it to Pune Municipal Corporation in 2019. The corporation authority had approved the proposal for trial and implementation under Pan-city Junction improvement project of Pune Smart City.

The existing condition and geometry of the junctions were documented, analyzed the issues and the correct geometry was designed and proposed. The trial was conducted, and observations were considered to modify the geometry accordingly and the final geometry is executed on site.

PMPML on a suicidal path

During the past few months not only have such half-baked ideas failed – and continued to give bus based public transport a bad name but also cemented it as a “loss making” venture deserving no priority or nurturing – even though PMPML is the backbone of Public Transport in the city with over 10 lakh passenger trips. The much-hyped Metro Rail with an investment of Rs. 11,522 crores for the first two corridors (PCMC to Swar Gate/Katraj and Vanaz to Ramwadi) gets royal treatment with no questions asked although its DPR promises ridership of mere 7.5 lakhs per day when the corridors are up and running by 2031 or later. Whether it is the selection of routes, inconvenience to other modes like buses, cycles or walking, damage to the environment from features like pillars in the riverbed or damage to the skyline, the Metro is given a free hand.

Parisar felicitated as the best NGO in the field of Road Safety in Maharashtra

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) celebrated Road Safety week from 11 to 17 January 2023 across India.

Parisar was felicitated as a best NGO working in the field of road safety in Maharashtra. This award ceremony was held in Mumbai on 11th January 2023.

The event was organised by the Transport Department, Maharashtra State and Mr. Sandeep Gaikwad (Senior Program Associate) represented Parisar to receive the award.
