Orientation Workshop on Single Use Plastic at Kolkata

An interactive and activity-based capacity building workshop for street vendors on single use plastic was conducted on 3rd and 4th February, 2023 at Kolkata, West Bengal. Various street vendors and union leaders alongwith NHF General Secretary Shaktiman Ghosh and 15 other members attended this workshop.

The workshop was an eye opener for the participants explaining the omnipresence of plastic in our environment even if it physically does not look like plastic. The workshop also covered important topics such as the process of making plastic and its utility in our day to day lives. It further focused on the harmful effects of plastic on health and environment. The workshop informed the street vendor groups about the single use plastic ban imposed on 1st July, 2022. It explained about the banned items and the penalty for non-compliance. The participants raised some important queries related to the ban and the same were resolved by the trainers. Various activities were used as tools to simplify the concepts and help the participants comprehend information on single use plastic (SUP) and the national SUP ban.
