Design Challenge for Increasing Commuter Cycling in Pune

The Problem:

Over the past decade, the utilization of cycling as a commuting option in Pune has drastically declined. Despite recreational cycling remaining popular, commuter cycling has seen a significant reduction in modal share. This decline exacerbates the ongoing traffic and congestion issues in the city.

Objective:

The primary aim of this design challenge is to revitalize commuter cycling in Pune. By addressing the barriers preventing people from adopting cycling for shorter commutes, we seek to promote sustainable and eco-friendly transportation alternatives.

The Challenge:

Identify the factors inhibiting individuals from choosing cycling for their daily commutes. These barriers may include but are not limited to: inadequate cycle parking facilities, lack of dedicated cycle tracks, or issues related to convenience. Design a solution tailored to address the identified problem.

Design Criteria:

We encourage participants to interpret "design" broadly, allowing for a diverse range of solutions. Your submission should include a concise video (maximum 3 minutes) explaining your design concept. You are not required to appear in the video yourself.

Individuals or Groups:

Participants have the option to submit entries individually or collaborate with friends and colleagues. Creativity and innovation thrive in both solo and group settings.

Prizes:

Outstanding designs will be recognized and rewarded. The first prize winner will receive INR 5000, while the second prize winner will be awarded INR 3000. Additionally, winners will have the opportunity to see their designs implemented, contributing directly to positive change in Pune's commuting landscape.
