January 15th to February 14th, 2024 was observed as the National Road Safety month 2024 by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) organising various campaigns. During this period, Parisar held training sessions for District Road Safety Committees (DRSC) in 8 districts of Maharashtra, namely Nagpur, Chandrapur, Amravati, Buldhana, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar and Sangli. These trainings were organised jointly by the Transport Commissioner's Office Mumbai and Parisar, Pune. Focused on the "Safe System Approach" to tackle road safety issues, the districts were chosen based on road crash severity data from the report on Maharashtra Road Crash Data 2022, showing the urgent need for action. 

Parisar, in collaboration with United Way Mumbai and the Transport Department of Maharashtra State, organized a poignant event in Mumbai to mark the World Day of Remembrance 2023, observed globally on the third Sunday of November. The event aimed to raise awareness about road safety issues and commemorate those who lost their lives in road accidents.

On September 5, 2023, a workshop on "Sustainable Transportation for Road Safety, Air Quality, and Climate Change" was conducted in collaboration with the Parisar, Centre for Environmental Education (CEE) and the Department of Environmental Science at Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The workshop aimed to address urban transport, road safety, air quality, and climate change concerns by assessing the current situations, challenges, experiences, and existing policies.

This week marks the 2-year anniversary of the passage of the landmark Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019. Recently Mr. Nitin Gadkary, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways, referring to the latest road accident data in the parliament, claimed that road safety has improved in 2020 pointing to the 13% drop in fatalities to an eleven year low of 1.32 lakh. However, it would not be lost even on the Minister that most, if not all of this, can be attributed to the reduction in traffic volumes due to pandemic-induced lockdowns rather than any systemic improvement in road safety.
